Google introduces .dev
Since March 1, 2019, Google has opened a domain, ".dev". The company states that this domain is dedicated to developers (logically) and technology in general — a way to group various tools, programming languages, or blogs under a single extension. To host your site under this new domain, simply find your preferred host on Google Registry. For those planning to attend Google I/O this year, the Mountain View firm offers a .dev domain name for every ticket purchased. One advantage of this domain is that it is secure by default, requiring HTTPS. Google has already moved several of its sites to .dev, such as web.dev, opensource.dev, and flutter.dev. The web is no longer just .com, .org, or .net. A wide range of domains now exists. From .cool to .ninja, these extensions add real value, allowing visitors to immediately understand the vibe and what the site offers. The famous .com is certainly one of the most expensive domains; .dev might offer a more affordable alternative. In early 2018, Google launched .app. According to Ben Fried, Chief Information Officer at the Alphabet subsidiary, this domain is dedicated to app developers. This extension can be used to promote an app and dedicate a landing page to it on the web, for example. In 2015, Google spent no less than $25 million to acquire this domain. It remains to be seen whether .dev will be as successful as .tk — the domain name extension of that small archipelago of 1,400 people has over 30 million domain names. While waiting for .dev to arrive at heberdomaine, register your domain name today at heberdomaine by choosing from over a hundred available extensions.
