SSL, HTTPS, and SEO
An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate enables the use of the HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure) protocol on your website, ensuring secure data exchanges to and from a server. Unlike the HTTP protocol, HTTPS is secure and encrypts the data you handle: emails, personal information, banking details… Without this protection, your data is at risk of interception or tampering. Google Search: Updates for unsecured sites. To meet increasing web security requirements and enhance protection of sensitive data from hackers, Google decided in 2017 to penalize non-secure sites using the HTTP protocol (i.e., sites without an SSL certificate). Visual Impact: As stated on Google's developer blog, when a user visits a non-secure site in Google Chrome (used by 3/4 of internet users), the “Not secure” warning will appear in the address bar. This alert may make users wary and encourage them to leave for another site. SEO Impact: Google will downgrade the ranking of non-HTTPS sites. Beyond Google’s new rules, SSL certificates provide many security benefits. Implementing an SSL certificate significantly contributes to web security, protects your personal data, and ensures optimal SEO for your site. At Heberdomaine, all new websites we develop and manage for our clients come with an SSL certificate and use HTTPS. Need a security certificate for your website? Check out our offers.
